Scandinavian Foundations
The Beginning of Today’s IBSS.
The roots of the IBSS story reach back to the beginning of the 2000s, when the foundations for an internationally oriented approach to business education began to take shape.
In 2004, the International Business School of Scandinavia entered its formal Danish institutional development — establishing the foundation from which the present-day IBSS would grow.
From the outset, the direction was outward-looking: business education shaped by Scandinavian foundations, but designed for learners and professional communities increasingly connected across national borders.

2006–08 Hinnerup · Copenhagen · DenmarkBefore Learning Moved Online
Business Education in the Classroom.
Before IBSS developed the online and internationally distributed model associated with the school today, students studied together in physical classrooms in Denmark.
During these formative years, IBSS welcomed onsite students while developing its approach to business and management education. By 2008, the school was based in Hinnerup, Denmark, before subsequently relocating to Copenhagen and, later, to Aarhus, where IBSS is located today.
The classroom years became an important part of the school’s development. They provided direct experience of teaching, student interaction and academic delivery at a time when traditional onsite study remained the dominant model.
As technology and student expectations began to change, IBSS started adapting its approach. The experience gained during these early years would form the foundation for the move towards more flexible and digitally supported learning that followed.

Chapter 02 · International Development
2009 Denmark → InternationalEducation Begins Crossing Borders
A More Flexible International Model.
As education technology developed, IBSS began expanding the way students could engage with business education beyond a traditional classroom setting.
By 2009, the school was developing a more international approach supported by blended learning, digital learning tools and collaboration with educational organisations outside Denmark.
This shift created the foundation for a model in which students could increasingly access international business education closer to where they lived and worked.
Chapter 03 · International Collaboration
2010 Kuala Lumpur · Malaysia24 March 2010
A Major Step Into Asia.
On 24 March 2010, Asia e University (AeU) and the International Business School of Scandinavia (IBSS) signed a Memorandum of Agreement at the AeU campus in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The agreement endorsed an exclusive collaboration between the two institutions to develop, market and award the Master of Business Administration as a Dual-Award programme.
The collaboration was initially intended for students in Malaysia and Vietnam, creating an international postgraduate pathway through the academic relationship between AeU and IBSS.

Chapter 04 · International Community

An International Community Takes Shape.
By 2013, the international development of IBSS was increasingly visible through the students completing their studies across its partner network.
In Egypt, IBSS celebrated graduates in partnership with its Egyptian partner, ECC, bringing students, academic representatives and the wider education community together to recognise their achievements.
The ceremony reflected the international model IBSS had been developing — combining business education with local educational partnerships that connected learners in different markets with an increasingly international academic community.

A Moment of International Visibility.
In 2020, IBSS was listed #71 in CEOWORLD Magazine’s business-school survey.
The listing represented another moment of international visibility for a school that had developed from its Danish foundations into an increasingly connected education network.
By this stage, IBSS had already spent more than a decade expanding its international collaborations, developing flexible learning approaches and connecting with students and educational partners across different markets.
IBSS was listed at number 71 in CEOWORLD Magazine’s 2020 business-school survey.
Chapter 06 · European Collaboration
2022 Zagreb · CroatiaSeptember 2022
Strengthening Academic Connections in Europe.
In September 2022, IBSS announced an agreement with VERN’ University in Zagreb, Croatia, concerning collaboration around MBA and DBA programmes.
The relationship represented another stage in the development of IBSS’s European academic network, connecting the school with an established private university known for business, entrepreneurship and professionally oriented higher education.
With an international outlook and a strong emphasis on mobility, innovation and professional development, VERN’ provided a natural institutional connection for IBSS as its academic relationships continued to develop across Europe.

Chapter 07 · Quality Assurance
2023 External Quality FrameworkFebruary–March 2023
Strengthening External Quality Assurance.
In 2023, external quality assurance became a more visible part of IBSS’s institutional development.
In February, IBSS announced achievement of ISO 29993:2017 certification, an international standard relating to learning services outside formal education.
The following month, on 12 March 2023, IBSS received accreditation from the International Association for Quality Assurance in Pre-Tertiary & Higher Education (QAHE).
Together, these developments added an external quality-assurance dimension to an institution that had already spent more than a decade expanding its academic relationships and international education network.

Chapter 08 · Twenty Years On
2024 Switzerland29 June 2024
Twenty Years After 2004.
Two decades after its formal Danish development, IBSS marked another international chapter in Switzerland.
On 29 June 2024, IBSS participated alongside its sister institution, the International Business Academy of Switzerland, in the My Global World Education Group Graduation 2024.
Graduates, academic representatives, educational partners and guests came together to celebrate academic achievement within a wider international education community.
For IBSS, the occasion reflected how far the institution had developed since 2004 — from Scandinavian foundations to a network connecting learners, graduates and partner organisations across borders.

Chapter 09 · International Community
2025 Kuala Lumpur · MalaysiaGraduation · Partnership · Alumni
The Network Becomes the Story.
By 2025, the international character of IBSS could be seen not only through institutional partnerships, but through the graduates themselves.
In Kuala Lumpur, IBSS participated in the My Global World One World Graduation 2025, bringing graduates, academic representatives, education partners, families and guests together for an international celebration of achievement.
During the same period, partner-led graduation activity in other markets — including Egypt — continued to demonstrate how the IBSS education network connected students with international programmes while supporting them within their own regions.
The result was an increasingly visible alumni community: graduates from different countries, professional backgrounds and partner pathways becoming part of the continuing IBSS story.

Chapter 10 · The Present
2026 Kuala Lumpur · Malaysia27 June 2026
Partnership in Practice.
On 27 June 2026, IBSS graduates returned to Kuala Lumpur for an international convocation that brought together students, academic representatives, partners and families.
The occasion was held in collaboration with My Global World Education Group and IBSS partner Hambra Edu Services. Students supported through Hambra were among the IBSS graduates celebrating the completion of their programmes.
The wider convocation also included students and award recipients connected with other international institutions, creating a shared celebration of education across institutional and national boundaries.
For IBSS, the ceremony represented something that had been developing throughout its history: international education supported by relationships that connect institutions, local partners and students through to graduation.
